Local Doc is Pediatrician of the Year

Greg Prazar, MD, a pediatrician with Core Physians’ Exeter Pediatric Associates, was recently honored by the New Hampshire Pediatric Society (NHPS) as the state’s Pediatrician of the Year.

Dr. Prazar, who has been a primary care pediatrician in Exeter since 1976, was selected by his peers to receive the recognition. He was presented with the award at the June executive meeting of the professional society, for which he also serves as the vice-president.

“I am honored to be selected by my fellow pediatricians for this award. I believe that we are only as good as the people with whom we work and who support us in delivering excellent care,” said Dr. Prazar. “I feel very fortunate to work in a practice with such dedicated caring pediatricians and staff.”

Dr. Prazar said he has been impressed by the strong community of medical professionals treating infants and children in the state.

“New Hampshire has a committed network of superb caring pediatricians who communicate and cooperate to ensure optimal care for our state’s children and adolescents,” Dr. Prazar noted.

The award recognizes Dr. Prazar for being a pioneer in the state with regards to the medical home model, a practice model that aims to deliver continuous, coordinated and family-centered primary care. As part of the medical home model, parent partners are actively involved in improving care to patients. The medical home model has played a key role in helping to prevent chronically ill and developmentally challenged children from falling through cracks in the health care system.

 Dr. Prazar and his colleagues at Exeter Pediatric Associates have developed many tools and practices now used across the country by other pediatricians implementing the medical home model. The practice has received national recognition for this work. 

Dr. Prazar graduated from the College of Wooster in 1968 and from Case Western Reserve School of Medicine in 1972. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Dartmouth Medical School.
